Culture is the foundation of our country and is the engine of our constitutional structure, in fact, as stated in article 9 of our Constitution, the Republic promotes its development.
So why not recognize as Italian citizens foreign girls and children raised in Italy, included in Italian educational and scholastic paths and who have completed the cycle of studies here in our country? With the bill of popular initiative on ius culturae one wants to do just that: to attribute citizenship to all those children of foreign parents who have completed their studies in Italy, who every day share dreams, ambitions and passions with their Italian peers, who will have the right to vote tomorrow and to actively participate in the community in which they live by asserting their ideas and ideals. The bill is ready, it was decided in fact to propose the same text voted by the Chamber of Deputies in the previous legislature, a text certainly not perfect but which represents the most immediate instrument to urge Parliament to reopen that debate. It is urgent that Italy tackles the question of the new Italians and endows itself with a modern law on citizenship that knows how to adapt to the current needs of the country that cannot remain tied to the same laws of the past. The scenario has indeed changed and promoting such an initiative is of fundamental importance for the advancement of the country in the cultural sphere but above all in the social sphere.
As the Civil Action Committee of Galatina we have decided to join this national initiative and have launched a collection of signatures open to all citizens of age. On the morning of Sunday 2 June we will be in Piazza Alighieri where it will be possible to sign our proposal, supported also by the Youth Council of Galatina and in particular by the President Marika Martina who declares: -I am often questioned as to why citizenship should not be recognized who successfully completes a school cycle in our country. Italian society will only be able to take advantage of the inclusion of young boys who, children of foreign parents, study in the schools of the Republic, speak the Italian language correctly and live in the cities. It is contradictory to teach them the values contained in the Constitution of a country that rejects them as citizens. Through ius culturae, moreover, the role of the school as a place where the civic sense is built, training ground for the citizens of tomorrow, is expanded and enhanced. Supporting together with the girls and boys of the Youth Council of Galatina this initiative, carried out by Caterina Luceri, is important: remaining extraneous to any political alignment, we give luster to ideas worthy of merit for social improvement, inclined to integration .-
Thanks also to the municipal administration and in particular to the Mayor Dott. Marcello Amante, to the Deputy Mayor Mrs. Maria Rosaria Giaccari to the Councilor Dr. Pierantonio De Matteis for having welcomed our initiative and guided us in the organizational phase of the event.
A small gesture to affix the signature but of fundamental importance to make this initiative reach Rome. It is necessary to collect at least fifty thousand signatures at national level to make Italian-language court no longer just a slogan but a battle of rights that can become reality and that can change our country for the better.
