Visita guidata

GTI Basilica e Puglia organizes guided tour of Galatina in one of the most fascinating historical centers of Salento. Piazza Orsini, Church of S. Caterina d 'Alessandria. 5pm

Galatina, one of the most fascinating historical centers of Salento, where the richness of the Baroque is intertwined with the most frivolous style of the Rococo, giving us an architectural unicum with beautiful noble palaces and churches, which frame the streets of the ancient city, considered cultural heritage and artistic of great importance.
The visit will begin at the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, a distinguished example and union of Romanesque and Gothic art; for the beauty and vastness of its pictorial apparatus, art historians consider it second only to the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi.
We will then move to the adjacent Cloister, richly decorated with 17th-century frescoes and home to the Basilica Museum, where precious relics and sacred objects make this small place, once the refectory of the Franciscan monastery, a delightful and interesting exhibition space.
We will continue to discover the historic center and the most admired and significant places in the city, some of which are linked to the worship and devotion of the Patrons Peter and Paul including the seventeenth-century Mother Church, dedicated to the two Holy Apostles.
A tale of art, history and tradition that will project you in a past time, full of curiosity, charm and that pinch of mystery linked to that cultural phenomenon known as Tarantism that sees Galatina and the places related to the figure of San Paolo were the main theater until the 1950s.

During the walk, it will be possible to take a refreshment break at the famous Ascalone Pastry Shop, which created the delicious Pasticciotto, a typical Salento dessert.
